I rarely worry about the safety of my camera, but this is one of the few times. The wind was whipping up a lot of sand.

Hmm, sand blasting. Would have etched the coating off of your lens.

yep, good thing it was only an 18-55 kit lens!

The safety of the camera and lens was the first thing to come to my mind, too! We're all such geeks....aside from that, this is a very dramatic shot. I like the ruggedness of the rocks and the texture of all that sand. The wind of course adds the drama of movement. Nice job!
