Blue flash or..? Hmm... I like the peeling bark, the texture. The blue has me thinking too much, perhaps.

He's from Victoria! VIctoria has some of the most beautiful trees! I haven't personally seen any blue bark but i don't find it suprising

the trees texture was nice but dull and grey... the contrast was good... so i thought to enhance is by split toning it in lightroom...

Not bad. The color and texture certainly give it some impact. I would crop the background, which I find distracting, especially that white stripe (or maybe desaturate the green and darken the stripe), and try to recover some detail in the light area near the top.

I think your edit works better. I would still try to get a little more detail in that white area on the tree. Recovering from a raw file would give you the best shot at this, but even with a jpg if you go back to the original out of the camera there may be more detail there. You may have done something like a contrast or brightness adjustment that caused the highlights to get a little blown out.
