[I'm working from home today so my mind is wandering, this is not based in reality but more of an ignorant question about wireless security.]

I was at an event last weekend and after seeing a guy set up a bunch of strobes to trigger with a wireless remote I got to wondering... what if I were to hang out where I could take advantage of his lights and have his remote trigger my shutter?

Yeah, I'd have to keep the subject in focus the entire time, but I'd save hundreds (thousands?) on lighting equipment!

Ok, seriously, I'm not considering it, but I am considering if it's possible and even plausible. Is there security on this type of remote photography equipment?

I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I was talking with a photographer that I know, and he told me that one time he was shooting at a fancy hotel here in our city...and all of a sudden, his flashes start going off randomly. He can't figure it out at first, but they he realizes that another photographer (another one that I know well), is also shooting in the hotel and they are both using pocket wizards.

All you need to know is what channel the other guys transmitter is on.

 I don't know about other brands, but Poverty Wizards are also sold as wireless camera triggers. If you can figure out what channel he's on, set up your camera on a tripod, dial in your exposure, and let him shoot for you....

Aha! That went in an un-expected direction. I was thinking about tapping in and having my camera fire when he triggered the flash, but you're talking about just taking over the flash with your own trigger. LoL

:lmao:
