Will the Canon 40D work with a wireless remote?

I picked up one of these at Best Buy today:

Rocketfish

The package says it works with the 40D but, try as I might, I can't find anything, anywhere, to tell me how to get the remote and the 40D to talk to each other.

I poured through the 40D manual and came up empty, and haven't found anything online.

Any ideas?

I know the 40d works with the LC-5 ( i think is the number) wireless controller. Not sure about aftermarket remotes. I am assuming the software used for "talking" to the devices is most likely specific to the device since it's made to work with an actual controller not just a shutter release.

Sorry to tell you, but I do believe that you were lied to. The 40D does not use the IR remote system. You need a wireless remote transmitter with a receiver that has the 3 pin (RCC-C2) connecter to plug into the body.

Yeah, I can't figure it out. The package and the website say it works but, so far as I can tell, it might take a voodoo gypsy spell to get it going. I don't even really need the thing. I had a gift card, though, so I figured "What the Hell?"

I'll take it back; it was twenty bucks...

The book "Canon EOS 40D" by David D. Busch says you have to plug in a remote.
There are two remotes on the Rocketfish web site. Interesting reviews on both. One says the batteries on the remotes are all dead off the shelf. The other says you have to be in front of camera or within 15 degrees of left center for the sensor to receive the signal from the remote. So????????
