with hat... or without hat

both shot in an analog SLR... actually, trying a non-digital SLR for the first time. I know both are pretty much the same... but which photo do you think is better: with or without the hat??

I like the one without the hat better. Makes it appear as if he's been waiting there a long time, or is resting. I like both of them though.

the film was a 400 ISO, C-41 process... and BW of course

I think that the man with the hat looks more like a "character" - if you know what I mean... it has the balance of "out of place" + "intriguing". The same man without the hat gives more of a serious feeling, but more emotional as well... not sure

With, because the striped pants on their own don't cut it IMHO. The hat for me is a required component.

I like both, but I'm for without. It "speaks" to me more. Like life is passing by (with the background of cars going by).
