With the D7000 just released...

...would I still be worth it to get a D90, since you can get them with a kit lens for under $1,000? Or should I just pony up the extra $500 or so to get a D7000 with a lens?

I'm currently shooting Canon EOS, but I only have 1 mediocre lens, so switching systems as I venture into digital isn't really a blow to me. I'm also impressed by what I'm reading about Nikon sensors, especially when it comes to high ISO performance.

If you can afford a D7000 then get it. If you can't then save the extra cash and spend it on good glass, good quality glass is more important than the body anyway.

D7000 is a rock star... I've read more than one person dumping their D700 and going with the D7000. Not saying it's better, but it says a lot for a DX body.

D90 is no slouch and can be had for a good deal as can the D300/D300s.

I had this same dilemma, but decided I don't -need- the d7000 even though I want it. Also, there are other items I know I want to purchase right away (fast prime, tripod, flash) Getting the d90 gives me plenty of camera at a good price and I don't have to break the budget to get the extras I want. If I had more cash to spend, I'd have opted for the d7000, though.
