I love this story! Classic.
Awwws
Your cat sounds like a mighty warrior - that fly was likely some devilish monster in disguise or something!
As for killer cats ours were always rather outdoorsy cats and hunt around (mice, voles - but mostly small birdies) (they became very outdoorsy cats when the husky appeared - barring the, now passed on, old cat who just hissed and snarled and was grumpy at the husky).
This one
who is still with us and is the most friendly cat you can imagine (she often follows my dad around for nearly the whole day) will happily chase after and hunt down the most deadly of nocturnal prey - MOTHS!
She was desperate to get inside. Classic! He is beautiful!!
I had a cat (she lived until the age of 19) who was quite a ferocious hunter when she was younger, but definitely got lazy as she aged. I watched her laying outdoors once, literally "playing" with a mockingbird - he was swooping in and down and she would pretend to take a swipe at him. There were no trees or bushes nearby so I knew there was no nest-guarding going on...mockingbirds are mischievous little things. This game went on for 15 minutes or so, until Jinx grew bored, got up and stretched and started to pad her way back towards the house. At that moment the bird swooped in close again and screeched in her ear - she tripped out and started to run, and that bird chased her all the way to the porch. She was desperate to get inside. Classic!
I still miss the old girl.![]()
And then one day a bird got in through the chimney. The cat was trying to catch the bird, I was trying to catch the cat, and the bird just wanted out of the middle of everything. We went from one end of the house to the other several times before I finally got the cat in the bedroom at one end and got the bird out the front door at the other end. It was not fun.
