Hello. I live in Eastern Ontario and have always dreamed of learning photography. Stumbled on a used Nikon Maxxom 3xi at a price that screamed "do it now" (under 50 dollars) so I guess it's time I learned. I'm good at the artistic side, but now I need to learn the technical aspects. I'll be focusing on some "odd" areas, being slightly autistic means I see things differently than others so I'd like to try and introduce the "normal" world to what catches our eyes differently.
Thought about changing to a newer camera but to be honest I'm going to stick with what I have for now to learn on, and then once I actually know what I"m doing I'll decide then if I should upgrade or not.
And yes I talk a lot! :beguiled:

Hi welcome again from UK.
You say you see things different... no problem, I am known for my out of the box approach to photography
So long as you follow the rules of this place, people here will soon tell you if you don’t, in a nice way, but you will not get hassle if your pics are different.
I look forward to seeing your pics

Never heard of a Nikon Maxxom 3xi... did you perhaps mean a Minolta Maxxum 3xi, which if my memory serves me correctly was a Minolta camera around 1989 to 1990 or thereabouts. Welcome to The Forum, and to photography!

Hi, eh!!
For a film camera it was very automatic but does have manual controls.
It will be great to see another photographers view.

Bren, welcome! Yes, I'm a noob here too.
I'm sure you'll have fun learning photography. That said, if that IS a film camera, boy you sure are taking the long way around to leaning!!! LoL
Maybe that's the bit of autistic in you!? Good luck!!!

Welcome to TPF.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help along the way. There’s likely at least a few people here that have run into most of the problems a photographer could have and came up with a solution.

Also use any advantage you have. Having worked with autism in the past I think you could have a leg up on a lot of us in the creativity department.

Lastly. Have fun.
