Great Blue Herons will eat almost anything that doesn't try to eat them first. I've seen them eat moles, rats, gophers, snakes, baby gators and the like; so when they see something that might, could, maybe is food, they'll take a stab at it...and he did and immediately flung it off his beak.

It does have that green olive look to it, doesn't it?
