thats a nice lens. we have one. never use it...but its a great "walk around" lens. price on it is good as well.

This is a short zoom, the 50mm is a prime lens, not a zoom. It covers wide angle to mid telephoto. It has vibration reduction which GREATLY improves picture quality amd reduces blur. This lens is $400 new amd im just trying to get back what I got in it because I just got an 18-200. If u have never used a vr lens then u will be very impressed with it. Pm me if ur interested

in what way would you compare them?the 50 is prime (fixed focal length),the 18-105 is a zoom (variable).You can research either (and possibly compare side by side) using Google.
