Recently picked up a Yashica 35 YL F2.8 from 1959. The camera in good condition apart from some dust and the focus diamond seems a lil hard to see. Who knows maybe it always was with these things. The main issue I am having is the film advance lever is stroked once, the shutter wont fire but when i pull it back again till it stops like another quarter it fires. I have loaded a film in it to see how it goes. Researching the net i often see issues with stuck or broken levers, but this one is strange as it needs more than one stroke to fire the shutter. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

It happens. It would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

Or, if the camera still advances the film normally and without frame overlap, you can just live with it. I've used cameras that did this. You'll know if there is a frame spacing issue when the film is processed.

Thanks for the response :allteeth:. Did you know what caused it ? I would try to fix it but i dare say parts are impossible. Film does seem to advance but that extra quarter stroke to get button working not sure how far extra it pushing along. I will see how many exposures i get from the 24 roll and maybe live with getting less out of 36 rolls.

It is about 60 years old...

Film advanced mechanism seems out of tune... not too surprisingly..

Please let us know how you get along, okay?

The film advance is a series of gears, levers, springs and other parts that must work in perfect harmony to advance the film precisely to each frame. With age parts wear or get out of alignment and must be re-adjusted to work as new. Trust me -- this is not a repair job that a newby should attempt unless you have the proper tools and step by step instructions which I doubt you will find for this camera.

Thanks for that. I will test out the film I have in there and see how it goes. If its no good i will write it off as bad luck. Fingers crossed.

Ok so completed my test film of Kodak 400 24. Whats interesting is the camera counter read 25......so not sure if it means it still works or not. I couldnt advance any further so definately end of spool. My issue is I havent shot film in 15 years and feels like I shot less. Will develope over the weekend so fingers crossed.
