Yo ho ho and a barrel of Rum

Unlike Whiskey, Rum is aged in used charred oak barrels so the wood imparts less seasoning. Some of these Rum barrels have been in continious use for over 150 years at the Cruzan Rum distillery. The Distillery has been in operation here since the 1700's.

Thank you both. The Rum factory is very cool, we got up on the scaffold and were able to look directly into the vats of fermenting molasses....wow, does that smell good! For $5ea they give you 2 free drinks at the end of the tour...too bad I don't drink but the wife enjoyed it

Cool shot but I have to dispute the idea that Whiskey somehow isn't aged in charred oak barrels. Whiskey is certainly aged in oak barrels, and the "newness" of the barrels and level of charring will vary depending on whether you're talking about Scotch Whisky, Irish Whiskey, Bourbon Whiskey, Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey etc.

Interesting shot, excellent exposure. We have two distilleries around here and I've visited both of them. The aging area of the Jack Daniels distillery has a barrel house exactly like that, but the shot I got of it was not that good
