Young Phoebes

Nice shot of the birds. And I like the symmetry. But I find myself wondering ...what is that they are sitting on and what is the background?

Phoebes like to nest in an overhang of a building. This is in a woodshed next to a maple sugar shack up near the roof line. What they are on is their nest and it sits on the top of the wall header. Phoebes like to build deep nests like that. Behind them is where the roof meets the wall. The first rafter is just out of the crop to the right. It was very dark in the shed and if you didn't know where the nest was you would miss it.

They are a fun bird to watch. A flycatcher that will dart out for a bug and back to a branch. If you hear them call it sounds just like they are saying Pheee-beeeee hence their name Phoebe.
