I sold a couple of photo's this week and the person wants me to sign them.There is no border on them so what would you suggest i do? Sing the mat or sign the back of the photo or?

I would sign a corner of the photo in black ink. making it subtle and not at the same time, just like painters would do.

Or just ask the client what they want.

I sign the back of all the 'art prints' I sell, but I've had a client request that I sign (rather largely) the front of the matte. That's not something I would normally do, but that's what they wanted.

i would sign with black ink the bottom right of the picture.

For 'spec' sales, I sign the matte lower-right with a gold or black pen and stamp the back of the image with my copyright/info stamp. For direct to customer sales, I stamp the back, but don't normally sign the image.

I would suggest you get prints made that have a border you can sign. Prints are cheap.
