Looking on recommendations for settings on a canon Eos R6 mark ii with 24-105 f4 lens.

I think 24-105 might let you down on the long end. When I started shooting dog's at field trials I started with a 70-210 and just not enough reach. Went to a 55-300 and that problem went away! Day time shooting so I also ran the ISO up so I could use a wider open aperture! That also helped.

For shooting sports and wildlife with a full frame camera, you need something like a 70-200 or 70-300 f/4 or faster. With that said, with the 24-105 you are going to have to crop a lot to get things close enough. As for setting up the camera I would go with Shutter priority and auto ISO. Set your shutter speed to 1/500 or faster while keeping an eye on your ISO. You'll have to shoot several frames to get an idea of what works and what doesn't.
