I finally decided to face my fears with flash photography. I was scared of it in the past because I am still very much learning photography in general. I ordered a YN565ex from Amazon and got it a couple days ago. Tonight was my first real shooting with it outside of testing manual and TTL modes in my house. As a side note - extremely impressed with the build quality of this flash and I'm happy I ordered it instead of the SB900.
Anyways... I'm a cheater now too :lmao:. That ambient light stuff is for the birds because now I can control the light! I'm blown away at what even just a fill flash can do. I'm waiting on my stand and umbrella, diffuser, and snoot to come in next week!
This is a boring shot, but I could have never produced this look on something so boring with just ambient light! Even a fill flash just makes stuff pop in the photo:

Here's my 1st real attempt at using the flash beyond a fill. I bounced off a wall camera left. I have much to learn, but I'm just blown away at what doors are opening with this:
