Zoom Lens

Hi All, I am looking at a Nikon AF-S VR 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Zoom lens and was wondering what your thoughts are about it. Is there another lens that you would suggest in this price range. It is going on a Nikon D3000.

In that price range, that is a FANTASTIC lens. If you need something more particular for low light or indoor stage shots wihtout flash, it may not be ideal. But for what that lens has, in it's range that is a great lens.

What are you planning to use it for?

I will be using it outdoors. Birds, wildlife, landscapes, etc...

That is a great lens for those situations. May be on the short end for some bird shots, but we can't all go out and buy 600mm lenses

For a consummer lens, the 70-300mm is probably one of your better choices. For reviews on Nikon and Nikon compatible gear, I like Thom Hogan's writings.
