Yes, he was great. I just saw a preview recently for the latest movie from his books, being made from the first third of a Widow for One Year. Looks like it could be pretty good, altho I don't like the name they chose for it, The Door in the Floor.

Oh, dear.... I must be the only one who thought the movie was absolutely terrible.... :cry: I never believed it was a book that could transfer well to film and it didn't. Robin Williams was, in fact, an okay Garp, but...it just frankly wasn't a very good movie.

All that aside, I've always enjoyed John Irving, he's an entertaining, scrappy little writer.
