I'm new to digital. I bought a D300 and a D60 last week. I've been looking online for a lens x-300mm possibly. I can't however tell if the lens is ok for digital or not. Is there a difference? Can i get any lens that will fit my cameras and it work even though they are digital?

Yes. If the lens is compatible with the camera, i.e. any Nikkor made since about 1975, it will work. Check the back section of the manual under "accessories" for specific exclusions to this rule.
