digital photography-helping or harming society?

I was just wondering what everyone thinks:

Is digital photography helping or harming our society?

think the question was about society not the planet and in that case its just photography

Link it further with self image and the need to be famous or look like somebody famous and then you start to have a question. But is that need driven by people or the images they see and in that case its not just photography its any form of media and on and on

Alas and alack, it does both. In reality, digital photography does not do the harm or good. These arise from the one who pushes the button. People nowadays are crazy and digital photography reflects that fact pretty well in too many cases. It is like placing a gun into the wrong hands or placing the office of the President of the United States under the powers of our current ....(you fill in the blank.) Unless morality prevails, the outcomes are not promising.
