Just wonderedif anyone know any free and good German to English Translation sites etc.

I got a letter back from Austria today and I can make out some of it. I managed to work out that my Great Great grandfather (born in 1820) was a Schneidermeister - a Master Tailor. but some of it is beyond my English-German dictionary :(

I do find it funny that I got my nick of Lensmeister long before I knew that he was a Schneideermeister ... lol

    Thanks in advance.

www.freetranslation.com Is ok but is a literal translation for the most part. You will probably be able to read it but it wont be a coherent piece of writing due to differences in grammar.

you can try www.babelfish.altavista.com. Again, it's gonna be literal.

Or, you could sweet-talk LaFoto. Hobbes and ClarinetJWD don't seem to do too bad with German either.

No online dictonary will ever do justice to the actual meaning of the words. Google's translater isn't all that bad though.

Even Google has a pretty good translator and seems to translate a bit better than others I've used.

Where's LaFoto in this thread? I would imagine she can help you with translating.
