It's not junk. Mine does the same thing. Acquired in the same fashion. Works just fine. There's some kind of button or switch or lever or spring activated hoo-hah or solenoid packed way down inside the camera that is not activating for the mirror to act as it should. I was adventurous and tore mine down as far as I dared one night a couple months ago to see if I could find it. As it was a couple months ago I cannot remember exactly what it was for which I was searching. It can be repaired. If you know how or are willing to spend the money to do so, that is. Or do as I do. Just live with it. It's different but not a major hurdle around which to get.
