i did a shoot with my 5 yr old in my kitchen. So all my lighting is only from my patio door and nothing else. Keep in mind i'm kinda new to this... but tell what i shoulda done differently.

(i have many more in this series so it was a tough choice which one to post.)

It's a cute pose! I think a reflector would help with the lighting if you wanted to stick with natural light. Her face seems a bit dark so additional light there would really make her stand out more.
 
Looks like the light is coming from the right hand side and her hair is kinda flopped forward on that side blocking the light to her face. I'd agree that either a bounce card or an additional light would really help with that.

You said your just working with a patio light though, so taking that into consideration I'd say it's a pretty good exposure.
 
nice work for someone new to this :wink: judging from your website, you seem very good at this type photography
 
Hmmm, I think I've seen this before ;)

I love the pose here. The expression really lets a lot of personality shine through.

A reflector to just lighten the shadows a bit probably would be a nice touch.
