    Hey guys,

I'm looking for a new lens for my Rebel XT. I already have a 50mm f1.8 and a 28-105mm f3.5-4.5. I'm looking at the wide angle and telephotos for a next one. I've concluded that I need a (maybe super) wide angle zoom first, then a telephoto.

    For a wide, I really like the Sigma 10-20mm f4.5-5.6. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...s&Q=&sku=381610&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
There is also this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...669&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

    ...

Then later on (by the end of the summer), I want a telephoto. I really want an L lens, so I was thinking of getting the 70-200mm f4L.

I will be shooting mostly photojournalism and the like, as well as general sightseeing, buildings, water bodies and what not.

What do you guys think of these lenses, and what other would you suggest (those prices and under, but a little above is okay too)?

    Thanks so much.

I want that telephoto as I used one before and it was amazing. The wide seems very good although a bit slow. I don't know how wide they can get lenses and keep them fast but I'd suggest faster glass if it's made, if not, 10mm is VERY good.

$900 is for too much for me.

As far as the telephoto goes, the 70-200 f/4 L is an excellent lens if you have good light. I ahve used it quite a bit for nature and landscape photography. For photojournal stuff like you want, you may want to consider something a bit faster. Especially if it will be indoor, moving subjects, etc. I just upgraded to the f/2.8 IS model and couldn't be happier. they do have a non-IS version also, but if you are going to do a lot of pan shooting, moving subjects, action; the IS will help tremendously. I am sure Tamron, Sigma & others have equivalents of the same zoom lens too for a bit less than the Canon model. Yeah you pay a lot more now, but it more than makes up for it in the end.

The price difference between the 70-200 f/4L and the f/2.8 is simply huge! (i said because you said that $900 is too much). I got the f/4L and LOVE IT! but as someone said, you may have some problems indoor...

When you say photojournalisim what do you mean?. If you plan to pursue it professionally in any way you would be at a big disadvantage without a 2.8 lens. This is something to definately consider when buying a lens.

I shoot mostly for my school newspaper and for the sake of shooting. I realize that I don't need an L-series lens for shooting for the school paper, but I would prefer the image quality for the other uses I'll have for it (e.g., vacation photos, personal sports photos).

Professionally? Maybe (hopefully) down the road; that would be cool. But this lens won't be my last.
