RAW problem?

I have a Canon 50D and today was the first time I tried shooting in RAW. When I got home, loaded it on the computer and it loads as a "CR2" file which won't let me open it. The camera was in RAW setting but somehow it got changed during the picture upload.

.CR2 is the RAW.

What are you trying to open it with?

CR2 is the extension for RAW. You should be able to open it with the software that came with your camera and view your RAW files. Your standard picture viewer in your computer won't let you view the raw files.

Depends on your OS I guess...

Windows Photo Gallery can open them on my machine. (Vista - not sure if XP will open them.)

It is opening in Photoshop. It tells me "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document"

I don't have Photoshop (Lightroom), but I suspect that you need to install a plug-in or something so that it recognizes them.

Good to know. I think i just got used to clicking the CR2 extensions and they migrate and open in Bridge.

Big What version of photoshop do u have ?

for 50d, it is relativly new therfore you need camera raw 5.4

5.4 only works for CS4 though. It doesn't work with earlier versions.

hmm.. I am sure i saw a version of Camera raw that you could use without photoshop / lightroom...
maybe lightroom is the way to go?

For Photoshop CS3 the latest version of CameraRAW is 4.6 which does support the 50D

UUilliam Lightroom basically IS CameraRAW without Photoshop

Nope... :gah: It downloaded but didn't do a thing. Still wont open RAW. WTF!
