When using step rings, I have run into a problem. Stepping my 72mm filter down to 67mm blocks the use of my lens hood. For protection of the lens, I usually try to use the hood. Any ways to get around this?

Further details:
Lens: 24-85mm Nikon 3.5-5.6 (72mm filter)
Lens: 70-300mm Nikon 3.5-5.6 (67mm filter)
Filter: B+W 72mm CPL

Thanks!

The 70-300's stock lens hood is not all that long...the one nerwin linked to, the generic 72mm hood for telephotos will probably be okay for that lens, since it has a narrow angle of view, even at 70mm, and of course at 300mm the angle of view is even more narrow. There's not really much advantage to a petal type lens hood on something like the 70-300 VR...it's not that flare-prone, and the generic hood nerwin's linked you to looks about right to me...

Alternately, at a brick and mortar camera store, there might very well be a box full of old, generic, screw-in lens hoods...those things tend to accumulate at camera stores. Houston must certainly have a big camera store or two...you could probably visit one and see what you could find.
