If you go for some sort of symbolism I think the background is no good. It is not giving anything to the picture, just distracting "blotchiness". Especially I refer to that black shadow going right across the main subject. It has the same values as the swing and blends with it. BG, out of focus, with elements of the rest of playground will be much better for example. Even something else, much less "organized" with more of that bokeh would be better, making the swing sit more isolated and standing out. IMO.

I only say this because there is nothing about this photo that says "winter", other than the title itself.

Thanks for the feedback - I'll play with it some more. There wasn't a lot of other equipment around, really. But I'll keep that in mind for the next one. I had actually cleaned the bg up in this one - one random bar from the swing set and a blotch of a tree in the background. Neither really leant themselves to what you were talking about, Timor.
