I currently have a d7000. I have about $2000 to spend and can't decide on the d700 or 85 1.4 lens.

Help me decide!

Do you have any fx lenses that would work on a d700? if not then just get the 85mm.

The only one I have is 50 1.4 but I love that lens....

Id stick with the d7000 and then go to this website and get a 24-70 and a 70-200

You could also get the 17-50 f2.8 sigma makes new for the same price as the 24-70 they have listed there.

The lens issue is a good point -- you're not going to be happy with the D700 + DX lens. FX format means you'll need FX lenses, and it's better not to go cheap for glass.

My feeling is, the sooner you switch to an FX, the better. I can't see much of a future in the DX line... When sensor costs come down the cost advantage of two lines of VERY similar cameras goes away, and the DX goes away. I switched about five years ago... Fortunately, I have three lenses I no longer use. I bet the probability of the future being all FX is over 99.9%. jD
