Ok, thanks for that. I'll stick to regular HDDs given their cost then. Just for the record though, was this an internal or external SSD?

I used it as an internal drive in a Macbook running dual boot OSX/WIN7. It wasn't some bargain basement drive either, it was $150 and was highly rated on Newegg. We had another SSD a couple of years ago that ran ~$320 that lasted a year before it died and we've currently got a $700 SSD in one of our other computers that hasn't failed yet but thats a ridiculous price to pay pay for non-volatile memory.

Try this instead of GPARTED.. this is MAC compatible.... REFIT rEFIt - An EFI Boot Menu and Toolkit

Hmm. Perhaps that is worth a try in case the problem here is MacOS-specific. It does seem like it might be a format issue...
