In this review they feel like the 1.4 is very soft compared to the Sigma 1.4, and then the Canon 1.2 is of course the best overall.

I must have gotten a real good copy or they must have had a bad one, because it's tack sharp at 1.8+ and 1.6/1.4 are only a teensy bit on the soft side, not noticeable once you print the thing.
