1/25!!! FML!!

A million flashes wouldn't do squat if you set your shutter speed at 1/25 actually...
Ok, they'd probably make a nice bright white image but my point is that you can easily make a blurred photo when using a flash if you still set your shutter speed to 1/25... ;)
Besides, I think we can assume flash was used for these photos.

How will it make a nice bright white image if you use a flash meter to get your settings :sexywink: have you shot in a studio before

Assuming she shot in the dark, yes. But wouldn't ambient light be able to blur it?

Only if there is ambient, if you take a shot without the flashes firing and your screen is black there is no ambient

I know nothing of studio photography, but I assume there is a lighted room, and shot at around f7? And at 1/25th there would be enough light to blur it... ? :)

Mmmhh.. yeah.. I think you have no slight idea about flash. I can take a picture of you with 5 second shutter speed and it will be super sharp even if you have cerebral palsy.

Obviously only if there is minimal ambient light though of course...
I have to agree with switchfx in that they look fine to me in the size that they are posted. If ambient light was minimal then it will make very little noticeable blurring at 1/25, and if you have decent camera-handling techniques and aren't usinga super-tele lens you should be ok in a lot of cases.

The shots look sharp to me. I don't care much for the angle of the shot or the background, but then again, you didn't ask about that(I don't like to shoot down at kids).

In any case, it looks like the majority of your exposure was from the flash so the shutter speed is relatively unimportant. If you want to confirm exactly how much or how little the shutter speed mattered in this shoot, go take another shot in the same location with the same ISO/aperture/shutter speed, except turn your flashes off. If the frame is dark, you are good to go. If the frame isn't, tell the customer you have some new looks you want to try and would like to do it as part of the original shoot. Also, do something with the background. A floor and a wall with crown molding as a transition are fine for a home, but it wouldn't be my ideal background in a studio.

I understand that flashes fire off at such quick bursts that it'll freeze your sperm, I was merely suggesting that there was so much natural light in the room that it would greatly impact the exposure.

How the heck would you know how much natural light was in the room at the time? If you were there, you should have reminded the OP about resetting her shutter speed. If you weren't, you are just typing for the sake of typing.

Short of a light meter, there is only one way to determine how much ambient effected the OP's shots and that is to go take a shot in the same conditions, in the same room, with the same settings without a flash on.

Everything else is conjecture. I don't see any blur in these photos. My guess, ambient was quite low.

They don't look blurry to me either.

I disagree. This is exactly what her clients love. Background like these SELL. Crown molding is a no brainer to cover the transition between the wall and the faux hardwood floor she is using. The bad thing I see on these ones are I can see the waviness of the wall and one of the floor.

I saw the waviness, also. If that is the look she is trying to recreate, so be it. I just think it looks a bit out of place. I would much prefer the shot to be taken from a lower angle with the subject on a chair or posing stool and not have the floor in the shot at all. For me, the transition looks a bit, well, forced. It just doesn't seem natural that a kid would be getting studio shots done in those conditions. I would also prefer a bit more distance between the subject and the background, but that's just me.

I agree about the angle though. This is why I dont really focus on baby photos. I cant compete with local female photogaphers here. They all have faux floor, faux wall, cute hats, cute props. People love these. I dont have the desire to buy stuff like this. Occasionally I do get newborn gigs but I dont care if I dont do one the whole year.

So I usually just use props they have around their house LOL. Their dining room table, their silverware, their dish. The only thing I bring is the cheese cloth.

That photo is hysterical! The baby's expression is quite fitting.
