UPDATE: Added a second pic. I am going through some test shots with the Sigma 50-500 non-IS that I took. Thought I would share one. This bird was about 3 inches big and the frame has had maybe 1/4 cropped from it. It was shot with a 7D on a tripod acting as a monopod @ 500mm f/8 1/1250 ISO 800. I realize the foreground branches in the way aren't ideal, but oh well .

That's beautiful. The colours. The foreground details are nice because the DOF is just right. I've never used a Sigma - I'm missing out!

Thanks. I definately would go for the one with OS if I was buying new, but I got mine used at a good price, so its kinda just something to tinker with.

Thanks. I was actually trying to catch a dragon fly that kept bouncing around on a few reeds in front of me, I guess because I was being so still, this bird landed on a bush pretty close to me. I had to wait for him to move around a bit to get this shot.

I would crop the second vertically, removing the blur from the left of the frame. This is the best for me, composition wise and clarity.

both sweet shots. Likin the lens?

Definately liking the lens. As for the crop, I was going to crop the blurred branch out, but it seems like most of my bird shots always end up in portrait mode, so I wanted to leave these two in horizontal. Plus I shot in horizontal and did not want to crop too much of the shot away so that I could show off the usefulness of the len's focal length as opposed to just cropping like crazy. (totally just almost typed "Crapping like crazy" :lmao: )

Ideally though, I agree with your crop suggestion.

I thought I knew how to count.... *sigh* back to school I go....

But seriously, I love the second one, :)

If the DoF was a bit greater or if the area in front were in focus as well... I'd like the first one better.

Great shots! I love my Bigma. get em while you can Sigma has discontinued them for the 150-500mm which dont think is as good.
