100-400 II lose focus ring

Hey guys. I just bought a brand new 100-400 II and I noticed the focus ring is a bit loose. If you grab it between your fingers and rock it front to back it moves very little, but I feel it. My 70-200 III is very tight, so I guess that's what I'm comparing it to. If other copies are like this I'll consider it normal...

Hi, I think what you meant is the 4 ball bearing outside of the barrel. They are used to slide the collar. My understanding is anything inside there are no ball bearings. Everything is solid screws. Let me know if my understanding is correct.

I have one sitting right next to me, the 70-200 is at home, and there is a tiny tiny bit of play compared to the zoom ring.

If the 100-400 is "brand new" it should have almost no play.
Mine that I had to open up to work the lock ring lost about 10 of the ball bearings. And its very solid.

So if its a used, thats one thing. But if brand new, you might want to go to Canon.
