01. “Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, then you’re never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures.”
Don McCullin

109. "If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug around a camera."
Lewis Hine

Very nice one.
I always have this with music.
If you really need lyrics, it means the instruments did a bad job telling the story.

"Need" lyrics ? Or not need them ? Same applies to any instrument. The vocals (if skilled) are one more instrument. I hear them that way, as simply another instrument in the ensemble. I am (fortunately ??) uninterested in the "message" within the words, so I hear only the "vocal instrument". I prefer lyrics in languages I dont understand, as extra assurance against possibly being distacted by the "message".

This applies verrrrry much to my photography. Light, color, texture, etc are the music. I pretty much ignore the nominal subject at hand. The "what it is" of the nominal subject equates to the "message" within lyrics. The subject object is an armature supporting colors and textures and catching the light. The "what it is" of that subject is, to me, of little interest or consequence.

Light, color and texture, etc are constantly in flux if the armature is in motion, so there is still a degree of "decisive moment" involved in some of my pix.

Yes, but I sure do love me some good lyrics with masterful use of instruments to go with it. It also begs the question: is someone's voice not considered an instrument? To me, I would say it is. Each instrument has it's purpose, and often I feel the purpose of sang lyrics is to communicate something that other instruments simply cannot.
