Gosh. I love this lens. It is a 3D lens! These birds look like they are coming out of my screen! :)

Foreground/background separation...one of **the main** advantages of the 135,150,180,200,and 300mm focal length lenses when used on 24x36mm captgure format...

hmmmm Schwetty if you wouldn't take offense I'd throw a Nikor 2.8 70-200 bird pic in the thread just to compare what Derrel said there ^^^^^^^

and my shot is random and ugly

post it... Lets see what a zoom lens can do ;)

Ok, terrible shot it was the 1st day i had the lens and I was playing in the backyard. But the seperation is there with a very close background considering its not a precious prime

Yes...my second favorite walk around or overall lens. Not to mention that it's got lightning fast focus and rarely skips a beat.

yeah.. I loved my 70-200. I had the first generation 70-200 f/2.8L IS canon. While the photos were good but it doesnt surprise me like this lens. But that is a canon. I heard Nikon zooms are better. This thing is just so sharp wide open.

Yeah and mine can't compete with a prime but i really like that rough-cut zoom

what is your favorite?

From what I own as an overall walk around lens it has to be the 85 focal length.

But overall from what I've used, I rented this puppy in the past a few times and fell in love with it - it's my personal favorite so far:

hahah camz.. yes.. that is my ultimate portrait lens too. 200 mm right? I dont have 5G to spare though right now. One day!

yep it's the 200 f/2 IS. One day fairy god mother...one day..

You should give a 70-200mm f2.8 IS L MII a try - it will surprise you greatly and easily brings it up in line with the newer 70-200mm VRII that Nikon brought out a little bit before the canon hit the market.

But if you want a proper god lens forget the 200mm - go straight for the 300mm f2.8 IS L (MII ideally ;) :))

Well, I got rid the 70-200 2.8 IS because of the size and weight. It is just too big for me especially when I simultaneously working with 2 cameras. It is perfect if I am only holding one camera though. Since I am holding only one camera mostly on portraits, might as well go with prime. Doing weddings with only primes is a little scary but that is the route I want to take.
