Baby seems OOF in the first one...

I would hav eliked to see less of the guy in the blue tshirt and jeans and more of mom and baby in the second one...

Hrrm...I dunno about the third one...it's not quite...there...I think it's the heavy shadow under the chin and the fact that we can't see his eyes...=(

LOL @ Trippin'

Yeah only the baby's forehead, parts of the blanket, and parts of the hat are in focus it seems...oh and the baby's left eyelid...

Do you have any shots of dad maybe leaning in with mom and baby as well rather than his shirt? That could be anyone in that pic!

I will comment about the third.. the eyes always express the feelings... soo pay atention on this detail...

First off, very cute kid, don't let my CC think otherwise lol.

#1 The baby seems OOF b/c of the small DOF. I still think the family will enjoy the shot though, even if it's not technically sound to us.
#2 Another cute family moment, but agree with the Jeans/Tshirt guy in the background. I was thinking maybe you could clone out that white strip of T hanging out and it wouldn't draw the eyes to it as much as it does now.

#3 Truthfully unsure about this one lol. Lighting is a little wonky on it and I'm not 100% sold on the angle it was shot at. It's like, I like it, but then I dont lol. Not sure how to explain that one.

This and the others will still be treasured images by the family, but don't let their excitement over excite you lol. There are some technical things still wrong, but practice practice practice and you'll be cool in the end.

I've never shot inside of a hospital before, but I can imaging the lighting has got to be a challenge. Good on you for getting the experience though, always a learning experience :)

^ Very helpful, thanks dude.

I like the angle and contrast of the first shot. But yes, a little OOF.

My first reaction to the third shot was that the baby was going to fall out of the frame, so the angle doesn't do anything for me.
Cute baby, though! And I'm sure the parents will be thrilled.

1. It's ok, but watch shooting up someone's nose, you may not like what you see.
2. Have mother hold child up next to chest and take shot from a more level orientation with the mother and child, background will be back of bed not a person's jeans..
3. This is just bad orientation and the eyes have no life to them. Needed some lighting or flash.

f1.8 and 1/40 is going to give you soft and blurred focus especially on a moving baby.

Unless this is a semi private room use flash and if needed reduce the flash exposure compensation to minimal amounts.
You were limited by your experience and or equipment not by the hospital.
These are nice shots for the family though and keep shooting.

Shooting in the hospital does not have to be difficult, get next to a window and utilize as much natural light as you have access to (most maternity rooms I've been in have at least one or two large windows). These were shot on one of the pullout chairs (that dads/family members sleep on in the room), a white hospital sheet and the swaddling blanket that the hospital provided.

Edited to add: These were shot within 24 hours of birth, in Mom's hospital room.
