very nice! Love the lighting on #1. Maybe cropped in just a little too tight but very nice!

Looking at them from a photographic standpoint, I think both are very nice pictures.

From a personal standpoint, though, I think the first model looks to much like a porcelain doll. I much prefer the more 'natural' looking makeup of the second picture.

C&C per req:

1. Very nice; wonderful pose and expression. The tight crop works, 'though I think a wider one would work equally well. The only two comments I have are that the skin seems very over-processed and there's no life in her eyes; make suer that you get your light around so that it provides a decent catchlight for both eyes.

2. Not overly fond of this one; again there's a lack of life in the eyes, and the pose here seems rather uncomfortable or forced. I'm also not fond of the cropped elbow.

Just my $00.02 worth - your mileage may vary.

1) A very nice shot. I too like the close crop here but also feel that a slightly wider crop would have worked as well. That would have let the red continue to wrap around the head. If only looking at the face and hair I don't mind the top of the head being cut off, perhaps because I've seen so many close crops that I'm used to that, but my eye expects the red to continue around.

Overall I like the lighting in this shot but also agree that the eyes need better illumination. Brown eyes as dark as these (instead of bright blue eyes, for example) need a little help to attract the viewer's attention, particularly when there are other bright areas - the side of her face and back of her hand, which are more square to the light source, and her very bright red lips. Personally I think the lipstick is a bit too bright, in comparison to the image in general and to the specific shade of the scarf.

I can still see some texture in her skin so overall I don't think she has too much of the porcelain doll look. It's tough for me to assume how you got her skin this smooth between depth of focus, makeup, and post processing. I do suspect that there was some (perhaps not inconsiderable) post processing done because her eyebrows seem too soft.

2) Not nearly as good as the first (and probably really suffers by comparison). The lighting strikes her face so much from the side that the majority of her face is flat and dull. The pose does nothing for me, and there is no rapport with the viewer (having her look down the camera lens rather than beside it would have gone a long way towards improving this image).

Lovely shots, both of them. I like this second hooded shot even more. Try to bring a little more texture back to the skin. When you look at the top pic in the larger size, the smooth areas read as out of focus.

Man, I love this model's eyes though. Nicely captured.

The over-smoothed skin is killing me. The soft lighting is nice though.

I like the third photo you posted the best. The hood really goes well with the bright lipstick.

Agreed, I love the pics but girl no. 1 looks more like a doll than a real person.

I like #1 best. I agree with what the others are saying that the skin looks a little over-processed. It's not on the whole image...her forehead looks somewhat natural, but as you get farther down her face it gets really apparent that you did quite a bit of skin smoothing. I think what throws me off too is how bright her lipstick is, and how sharp her lips are compared to her softened and somewhat blurred skin.

I like the second shot in your second post alot...I like how the background is blown out. She stands out so well against that and her expression is very nice as well. I still the the skin is a little too processed on this one too though.

I agree with the comments on the skin. First thing that struck me when I saw the pics was that they have an oily or waxy appearance.
