How's this one guys? There's nothing that sticks out to me that's very wrong with it. I feel like I am getting better at this, but I'm sure there's something I missed. It looks a little dark on my work monitor but on my imac display at home, it looks perfect. (to me anyway).

The one little problem I have with it is the way the grass appears through the windshield and then the passenger side window. I used silver effex to do a B&W of the background to make the car stick out a bit more, but because the selection of the car included those windows, I couldn't affect that area of grass behind the car. I tried to select the grass through the windows after the fact, but it looked weird to me. I ended up selecting that area and desaturating and darkening until it somewhat matched the grass around the car. Did I come close? What's a better technique to achieve this through the glass matching?

I'm going to start shooting my own backgrounds to then drop these cars in and this "through the glass" issue worries me. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Danny

Thanks Steve. I'm very picky and want it to be perfect. I've heard the saying, and I'm paraphrasing, "chase perfection and you will attain excellence". I think Lombardi said that.

Just lower the saturation of the green color. The rear fender has this issue as well.

Didn't we C&C this shot before? It looks like the first edit of the first thread.

Oh wait - now I see the changes. Hmm.. ya, it looks better now.

Hi,

I apologize. This was a previous post and I made changes to it based on that feed back received there. I forgot about the original post.

Just by looking at this image I feel that you have lost the range in the photo from processing. It needs more. To me it looks like what a middle 0EV should look like.

My suggestion to your issues is don't shoot cars to try to fake the backgrounds. Sometimes it works out and you can make it work but when you have many windows and reflections it makes it hard to do this.
A good thing is if you plan on changing the background is take pictures with cars that have tint or paint it in so you don't have to worry about that part.

The other suggestion is get at an angle where the windows show less background through them so it makes it easier to cut those sections out.

Taking random shots of peoples cars in parking lots or car shows I would not stress the background issues as what do people really expect in that given circumstance?

IF you want to really focus on car photography you have to choose a location where it will really work with your car and then position the car first not the camera where it looks the best in front of the background. Then position the camera where you get the best angle shot of the car!

Hey Vip. I know what you mean by losing the range but why do you think that? Is it because the darks are still too dark and the highs too bright?

Thanks,
Danny

My guess is if the brights are blown and the darks are plugged then its not an hdr.
