What's new

.

I've read great reviews on the Tokina 11-16mm.

I own the 12-24mm/4. I have only had it for a few days, and can't say much yet.

What I can say, however, is that it's well built, all metal it seems (except the rubbery grippy thingy on the rings). The sun cap sits nicely on and is easy to put on. Thus far, the weird tokina style manual to auto focus thing has worked nicely. The rings are smooth, and the focus ring is big, which is good. Auto focus is decent, but quiet.

I'm assuming the 11-16mm/2.8 is about the same when it comes to construction and auto focus speed and such. Some say it's a tad sharper than the 12-24mm I realise these aren't primes, but worth looking into... unless weren't considering something this wide.

I have the Nikkor DX 10-24mm.. and it is a wonderful lens! Sharp, crisp.. and can really grab a lot! Highly recommend it...

Why do you specifically want a prime for that sort of work? It seems like a wide/UWA zoom would be much more versatile. The 24mm is a good lens, BUT at 36mm equivalent, it's not terribly wide on your crop-sensor body. What sort of budget do you have to work with? I think any of the zooms recommended above would be much more suited to the job than a prime.

Nikon has had a few primes 24mm and wider in the past. Most had good reviews, like most things though, some are better than others.

Here is a short list of old and current lenses. Have a troll through the on-line second hand sell sites for the older lenses.
