Those are good, the bottom one beautiful! I do the same, infant shoots. I'm an old photog, new to digital. My pics seem to lack that polished, crispy, finished look. I primarily use photoshop but just got Lightroom. Any suggestions or tips would be great.

Newborns were my favorite subject when my I ran my biz.

I agree that the skin needs some touching up, it is just so blotchy. I am not crazy for the "flawless skin" newborn edits, because to me that is just not what newborns look like. But I do like to see the blotchiness toned down some.

1. Always love a peaceful, sleeping newborn. The blanket adds a nice touch too. I don't like the OOF chunk of blanket in the lower left corner though. I find it distracting. I'm also seeing a yellow tone in this photo. Did you add that in PP?

2. One of my favorite poses is the newborn in a tight swaddle. It is the tilt that bothers me in this photo. It gives the appearance that the baby is falling out of the frame. Maybe a less extreme tilt would have worked better here.

3. I wish the baby's entire face was in focus here. And the chunk of fur on the right wasn't as much. I'd leave a little more space on the left side too. Feels a little cramped on that side when there is so much negative space on the right. I think this is a really nice photo, try to fix the skin up a bit and it will improve the shot by a lot.

4. This one is by far the best shot of the bunch. Though a tad overexposed IMO. The baby is in a really nice pose and the focus looks good. If I had to be nit-picky, I'd crop a little tighter on the left. As it is now, his head is nearly in the middle of the frame.

5. These photos can be tricky sometimes. I think you've captured a beautiful moment between mom and baby here. My thoughts ... I wish the crop wasn't so tight on the bottom. Part of the baby's elbow is chopped off, and mom's hand looks like it's coming out of nowhere. I prefer to get more in these shots, or a much tighter crop to pull the focus to the moment. And this is really just me, but mom's arms are a bit large. I know it's just baby weight, but when I had mom in my shots, esp. head on, I would often use the liquefy tool on the arms just a smidge. Shhh, don't tell. They never could tell, but it made them look a whole lot better.

#2 is bothering me - the swaddle has no folds, wrinkles, creases, anything ... the effect is almost of a disembodied head. The swaddle in #3 looks better - you can see some neck & the wrapping is more evident.
#1 is my favorite!

I was going to say the exact same thing. Your posing, exposures, and connections are really good in this shoot. #2 looks like the body is just a little bit lost though. Have you tried any editing workshops?
