Thanks for the reply, the first two were taken in Jakarta, last two were taken in a outskirt city nearby called Bekasi#3 would have been fantastic...if you shot it in portrait orientation. I enjoy travel photos very much, where in Indonesia are these taken?
#1 should be great when you get the original back to work on it. When shooting dark skin, against the light, wearing light clothes, over expose a bit. The children's face's will need some work separately to get them well-visible.
#2 - no face - need face
#3 - no context - could be your daughter in your back yard
#4 no context.
1) Thanks, good advice, I can see how that helps.
2) She never looked up the entire time I passed, are you saying I should discard this as a good photo because of that?
3) I'm not sure what to tell you here, do you desire some background information on me? Should I give the photo a caption? "Girl in Bekasi" -- I think photos are supposed to tell stories on their own, if you think this is my daughter in my backyard I guess I've failed my purpose
4) Same here - Caption: "Cat in Bekasi" - does that make the photo better?
No, I just don't think the picture works. There's no emotion, drama or interest - it's the back of someone's head who's crouched by the road doing something with a plastic bag. It doesn't make a point. IMO, it's a miss, a throway.
