I had it but I opened it, stared at all the different buttons and sliders and said NOPE because I can has no idea what I'm doing. I barely even know what a camera is. Wait, the lens detaches? WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME THIS

BTW, I like the scene. Very peaceful. Unlike my life right now. WAAAAAAAAAH WAAAAAAAAAAH PAY ATTENTION TO ME.

LMAO . I actually don't like this photo so much. Okay but on a 1-10 probably on the lower side of that scale. And if it is better than your life I probably would really not like to be you. I am really more concerned about gimp at this point. Did you really not use it? I am feeling like a dinosaur just looking at it.

Goodguy: I like you processing of that. what did you do?

one thing I did think through. was there was a kitty walking up by the edge of that road. And I didn't like it in the frame so waited, and waited, it looked around. Thought the thing was going to laydown and take a nap. Eventually, it finally got out of the frame.

It isn't. I was being overly dramatic. I did open GIMP, but my machine wasn't handling it too well so I ditched it. I use Lightroom 4 pretty much exclusively, unless it's a scanned negative which I don't mess with.

Okay, here's how I envisioned it:

That's a really tiny file.

I left the colors relatively untouched - just gave it a tiny boost of the green. Too vibrant and it loses that feeling of sadness that I like about it.
(I don't say sadness as a bad thing, by the way. We Portuguese think of sadness as a good thing. We've got one of the famous "untranslatable" terms: saudade. It roughly translates to 'nostalgia' but it also includes the idea that there's a peacefulness to be found in sadness.)

it is sooc. I failed. I know. And I usually promote such things. I don't feel like processing it though. can you do it? I will ignore the not edit feel free I just don't feel like it. Actually, if you like the photo you can have it too.

SOOC is totally unacceptable, if you ask me.

SOOC is like handing someone a half-cooked chicken. If it's not done, don't serve it.

Yes, You posted it on a public forum of which I am a member. Indirectly or otherwise, yes. You asked me.

Any time I see anyone post something and say "it's SOOC", all I can hear in my head is "Ok, so it's bad enough that they KNOW it's bad... and are making excuses for it... so why? Why waste our time?"

I mean, really... if it's no good, don't show it. Go make it as good as you can and THEN show it. Then we can help you. If you're posting something that you already know has issues, then what value is there in us telling you "hey! this has issues!"

Edit: And I know PART of what is wrong with these. Too lazy to use my feet and tried to slide by I did... I am looking at what others see is wrong and how they process to correct.

I somehow uploaded the smaller "thumbnail" image. Here's a second attempt at the larger file. Same crop, also cloned the bits from the foreground (could probably do a better job at it but I'm tired) and this time I left the colors alone but just bumped the contrast a tiny bit:

As for the second one, I'm not sure what you think is wrong. I think it's a nice picture, but the colors were too saturated for me. I know this isn't everyone's tastes but I desaturated the colors and contrast a bit, brought up some of the shadows. The trunks of the trees are still too black for me, but I've hit my current processing wall - perhaps not in skill but in tolerance - so I'm calling it done:

Look, I'm kind of with you on the goal of getting SOOC as close as possible to how I like it. My post processing is minimal but I do recognize that sometimes the camera isn't enough. My boyfriend got a photo book for Christmas. It shows the proof sheets of a lot of famous shots and photographers. Some of them are incredibly accurate, though certainly there was some cropping, dodging and burning happening in the darkroom. Others really didn't have that high of a hit rate, but the ones they did get right had little processing (I'm sure there was still some editing, though.)
