50mmD lense?

It's the newer one. D means, it has gives to the camera the distance information. This is important when using a flash.
 
Also, D lenses have an aperture ring while the G lenses do not. This is important to me as I also like to use my lenses on an older Nikon film body.

Nope, just the distance info, other than that, it's identical to the other 50mm (I assume you're talking about the 50mm 1.8 AF-D) I have this lens, and it is brilliant.
