60mm vs 105mm macro lenses

I have very much enjoyed my 60mm f/2.8G macro. It is small enough that I will usually toss it in the bag when going out in the woods. I also travel a lot with this lens.

It's my go-to product photography lens. I don't have a 50mm so I don't have to decide between one or the other to put in the bag. I use it a bit over 10% of the time. I like that the lens barrel does not extend, which was my main reason to go with this G version over the older D version (and the instant manual focus over-ride).

I think the problem with using the Nikon TC with the 60mm micro is the TC front lens element sticks out and the 60mm micro rear lens element is right at the back and there is interference.

As in non macro photography focal length determines FOV.
In macro this comes down to how much of the location the shot shows (if DOF is sufficient for it to show at all).

There are of course other factors, short focal length macro's are cheaper, and give more magnification when extension is added...
Long focal length macro lenses give longer working distances which helps a lot with lighting & for skittish subjects. Relative perspective is also highly dependent on distance, at 1:1 perspective will distort much more with short focal length macros.
