i'd never seen a baby American coot till this summer, when a pair of coots had a late brood at a nearby marsh. by the time the youngsters ventured out of the nest, there were only two of them left, and a couple of days later, one of those disappeared... these shots show the the one remaining chick (which has made it to adulthood) and some tender moments with mom...

Nice shots of a really fugly bird. Coots eyes make for awesome close ups if you can get them
