A Bit of Snow

I was playing around with one of my winter pics, doing some B and W conversions for my photo class. This was one I felt had promise.

was this HDR? There's something slightly off about it. In particular, the flora in the back is too busy, and doesn't separate itself from the rest of the picture. that said, I absolutely love the texture in the snow up front.

Part of the PP was to tonemap the image. I tried not to be too heavy handed with the effect but it does tend to give lots of contrast; pretty much making the foliage a silhouette. I could have layered the un-tonemapped image under it and drilled down to lighten the busy foliage, but I ended up liking the effect.

The image has potential, but I think you overdid it!

If this is to be presented to viewers on the iPhone screen, than I agree with you. But if it is to be printed 16x20 or more, the contrast is maybe just right.
