Hey, what did you offer the little fella in No.2 so it'd stay put there? Or what lense did you use to get up to it this close? I try as I might - they all as soon fly away as they sense my PLAN to take their picture!
These were both taken through the kitchen window at my parents' house. During the winter the birds are incredibly tolerant of people because they're so hungry. My parents put out a lot of seed and cracked corn, and the birds come in droves.
#1 is a woodpecker, I believe, and I think #2 is just some sort of sparrow or finch. Both shots were taken with a 200mm zoom.
I think #1 is actually a classic "redheaded" woodpecker....it's weird, but the beautiful ones I get in my back yard have complete red heads, but they aren't called that, I believe you've caught him there. Very sweet images, both of them....mad props to your Mom & Dad for keeping the cracked corn coming!
first, the young woodpecker is adolesent, they do tend to get redder as they get older, second, the small brown bird is a titmouse...we have tons of these here in the northeast, I love that shot, looks like a christmas card!
