I just love this lens! These were all shot at ISO 100-200 and f1.8-2.5

Heya, great shots, great DOF in all of them and the one with the sunglasses just screams cuteness!! Well done, looks like a great lens..

number 3 is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

# 4 is the best. He looks like an author posing for a picture to put in his book mini bio on the inside cover haha.

You make me desperate for an 85mm but for sony its around $1,300 USD which would is out of my reach for a while. Nice job now I can just drool and admire you work.

What an adorable little boy. They're all wonderful pics... #3 is just precious! Awesome job !

These are really gorgeous shots! And it helps that your kid is adorable, too :)

#2 is one of my favorites- how did you get the colours to look so natural, but so clear? It's excellent.

Gorgeous little boy you got there, and wonderfully captured. It's wonderful you can get this quality of photo of him instead of just snapshots of him growing up.

I'm still learning all this lens stuff.

What is the benefit of the 85mm over the 50 mm (besides 35mm) in portraits? I mean, I can just move closer right? What does it give you in the shot that I couldn't get with the 50mm?

Well, besides the fact that the Canon 85mm 1.8 is sharper than any of Canon's 50mm'ers, with the 85mm you will be able to fill the frame more with just your subject because of the minimum focus distance of both lenses. This also makes it easier to focus on a certain thing like just the eyes for example which helps a lot when you are shooting with such a shallow DOF as 1.8. Also, and this applies to Canon, don't know about Nikon, the 85mm 1.8 has "ring USM" which is Canon's fastest and most accurate AF. Both the 50 1.8 and 50 1.4 have an inferior AF system. The 50 1.2L has "ring USM" but is about 3 times the cost of the 85 1.8 or the 50 1.4.
