I'm incredibly lazy when I go to the beach, but I was still able to snag a few shots I thought were keepers. Enjoy:

Most of them are kinda whatever, but for some reason I'm really drawn to the first one, and I don't think it's just because of the girl's awesome butt, either.

Oddly enough, it was the chopper and the first picture that I wasn't really taken by. The first one is so blown out that it looks like they just died and are going into The Light. I suppose that works in a sense, but I'm just totally distracted by how white that right side is. The chopper...well, it's just a chopper. Unless you're into the flying machines then there's not much to keep interest.

My favorite was the second one. I really like the contrast, the silhouetting, the colors, and the bird. Yeah, the highlights are blown in that one, too, but it works.

And just in case you really thought he was missing a leg, that bird in the last shot was just sleeping :) Birds tuck one leg into their belly and they turn their necks and tuck their head under the wing when they sleep.

Limr, thanks for you thoughts. I went ahead and fixed the blown out highlights on the surfer and girl, but I kept the white gradient. Like others, there's something about it that I like. Probably because he's shileding his eyes from the sun and it add a sense of brightness. Otherwise without it, the shot was pretty boring:

I'm glad you liked number 2. That was the only shot I was really trying for something. I actually woke up early on vacation to try to do somethign interesting with the sunrise. It was actually harder to shoot than I thought as it was so bright I couldn't see anything through the viewfinder and shot on continuous to try to capture people as they walked through the bright sun reflection. It was shot at 300mm at 1/800 and 100iso. I think I have wiggle room to work on the blowout a little, but I was going for a very contrasted shot with the person in silhouette directly in the sun's reflection, otherwise, if they were just a few paces off the shot just looked normal a normal beach scene with a person walking on the beach slightly underexposed.

Interesting about the bird. I kept waiting for him to move but grew incredibly bored to wait and see :)

And while I was in there, I decided to remove the people from #6 as well; too distracting for me.

Personally I really like the first photo, with the edit you gave it. An interesting shot that works well with the gradient in my opinion! Well done.

I like the edit, too.
