I think if that area was a little sharper it would improve the overall appeal of the image.

This is a full composition view, with straightened horizon line.

Assume that the halo around the head and other such obvious things will be ironed out before it's finished.

I've done a little to add some texture to that blurry cheek, to give it more solidity.

for me it looks like the whole of her head has been pasted on from another shot also the rope is distracting and the metal rod growing from her head/shoulder is a big no no.

Actually, I think they looked better before I "corrected" the horizon line, because then the line of the bench she's sitting one mirrored the angle of the rope, making the rope seem more firmly rooted in the composition. Hrm...

I dunno about the metal rod, hrm...perhaps it's time to shelve this till I can defend it.

There's no comparison for me, the first photo you posted is by far better than the ones on page 2. Not sure what was changed (if anything) save the cropping. But it made all the difference in the world.
